Marcus Griffin scored 21 points, and No. 9 Illinois took its game inside Friday night to beat Illinois-Chicago 77-64.
Coming off an eight-point loss at Texas, the Illini dumped the ball to the 6-foot-9 Griffin and 6-11 Robert Archibald, who had 14 of his career-high 16 points in the second half and grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds.
UIC coach Jimmy Collins, an assistant at Illinois for 13 years, said his team was mismatched inside: "Their post players look like men playing against our boys out there."
Leading by eight at the half, the Illini went on a 15-6 run and pushed the lead to 20 points with 6:40 left.
Cory Bradford extended his NCAA-record string of games with at least one three-pointer to 77 with an early jumper from the top of the key.
MIAMI 70, UT-MARTIN 54: James Jones scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Hurricanes (8-3) won their final non-conference game before beginning Big East play Wednesday at Pittsburgh.
"The thing we can gain from playing these (non-conference) teams is that they don't back down," Jones said. "They might not have the talent but they will play you tough."
