Baywinds schedules open house for adults

Baywinds Learning Centres will hold an open house at Unity Church of Palm Harbor, 1960 Tampa Road, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Baywinds, an alternative learning program for business and professional adults in Tampa Bay, has published quarterly course catalogs on a range of topics for 16 years. At the open house, registration will be held for courses listed in the new winter catalog. The $7 registration fee will be suspended for the open house.

The Baywinds courses being offered locally include yoga, fitness, dance and Pilates classes at LifeStyle Solutions, 40168 U.S. 19.

Bloodmobile pays a visit

PALM HARBOR _ A Florida Blood Services bloodmobile will be at the Hollywood Video store at 37740 U.S. 19, at Nebraska Avenue, from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and at the store at 4942 Ridgemoor Blvd. on Wednesday.

Donors will receive a T-shirt, wellness checkup that includes a cholesterol screening, video rental coupon and will be entered into a drawing to win Super Bowl tickets.

Generally, healthy people age 17 or older who weigh at least 100 pounds can donate blood. Identification is required prior to donation.

Florida Blood Services provides blood for patients at Tampa Bay area medical facilities and requires more than 600 donations a day to keep up with demand. Information on the area's current blood supply is available at http://www.fbsblood.org. For information, call 1-800-682-5663.

Pianist to give concert

TARPON SPRINGS _ Greek classical pianist Vassilis Varvaresos will give a concert at 3 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center inside City Hall, 324 Pine St.

Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, Varvaresos began his musical studies at age 5 and has won numerous awards and honors in Europe. He made his Florida debut in Tarpon Springs in 1999. He is scheduled to play selections from Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel and Liszt.
