A Spring Hill resident is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase and running a car off the road Saturday morning. Michael Lloyd Stambaugh, 24, of 4415 Tiffin Ave. was spotted by a deputy speeding southbound of State Road 41 about 4 a.m., a Hernando County sheriff's report said. When the deputy tried to pull him over, Stambaugh reached speeds of 100 and 120 mph _ and ran at least one car off the road, although no one was injured, the report said. The chase continued west on County Line Road before the driver did a U-turn, passed the officer and headed back north on 41, and then turned west again on Spring Hill Drive and then onto California Street, a report said. The deputy finally forced him off the street at Powell Road, charging him with fleeing and reckless driving.

A man was arrested Saturday after he threatened a deputy trying to conduct a child molestation investigation, authorities say. The Hernando County sheriff's official came to the home of 34-year-old Gregory L. Christian at 26475 Roper Road in Hill 'n Dale, to talk to him about a crime committed against a 10-year-old girl, a report said. Christian then became angry at the officer and threatened to let his dog loose to attack him. Christian then tried to drive away. The officer ordered him to stop and, after Christian tried to fight the officer off, arrested him and took him to the Hernando County Jail.
