Former Gulf soccer standout Danny Andrews won gold at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Andrews kicked off his budding paralympic career in November's race, winning the 800 meters in a world-record time of 2:08.79 and establishing himself as the event's new standard-bearer.
Ridgewood's Shawna Luikart came out of the state track and field meet as Pasco County's only title winner. She surprised the field at the Class 3A finals, winning the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches, becoming the next member of the "Leaping Luikarts" family to star for the Rams.
Ridgewood's girls basketball team made it to the final 16 for the first time in school history, advancing to the Class 5A, Region 3 semifinals. Only the Rams' remarkable season ended in a 45-34 loss to Bradenton Southeast. The Rams finished their most successful season ever with a 26-6 record, the Class 5A, District 10 and Sunshine Athletic Conference championships and advanced further in the playoffs than ever before.
Three of Pasco County's top girls basketball players, Pasco's Ebony Adams, Ridgewood's Alayna Sherwood and Hudson's Nicole Warder all scored their 1,000th career points, all in the same week in November.
The Saddlebrook girls golf team finished second at the Class A state championship in November. The boys team made it to the finals for the first time in school history. Also, the Zephyrhills boys golf team won its first district title in a decade.
