Fall music series expands to six concerts

The Music in the Park series will be expanded to six consecutive Friday evenings this fall.

The move was announced by Jim Sheets, Seminole's recreation director.

"Instead of only four concerts every other week like last year, the committee decided to expand the series to six Friday evenings," Sheets said Thursday. "People of Seminole should welcome this change, along with the fact the series will be in the newly renovated Seminole City Hall Park."

He said the park, which is undergoing a facelift, will have a new state-of-the-art band shell, grass seating areas, picnic shelters and playgrounds for children.

The Music in the Park series will open Sept. 14 to the oldies sounds of the Barracudas. Concerts will continue through mid October.

Other groups tentatively scheduled to perform are Blackbird Abbey, Sept. 21; Dan McMillion Jazz Orchestra, Sept. 28; Cactus Creek, Oct. 5; Suzette Jennings and Moodswingz, Oct. 12; and T.C. Carr and The Catch, Oct. 19.

Additional family activities and entertainment before the concerts are also being planned, Sheets said.

Serving on the Music in the Park committee with Sheets are Barbara Nickse, also representing the city of Seminole, and Chuck Oldanie and Sandy Halloway from the Seminole community.

Several major sponsors have already been recruited, but more are welcome. For information, call Sheets at 391-8345.
