Meet the contestants from the 2001 Miss Teen Citrus Scholarship Pageant held March 9.


Ashley Surkamer

Crystal River High School

Age: 16

Hobbies: Dancing (jazz, tap, ballet and lyrical).

Achievements: Performed in pre-show and half-time dance squad at 1999 Outback Bowl; attended dance classes in California; first runner-up 1999 Miss Teen; honor roll; scored 6.0 on FCAT writing portion; National Honor Society; Seventh-Grade Student of the Year; peer facilitator; participated in workshop "Dance in Disney Shoes"; several first place awards in statewide dance competitions.

Aspires: To become a professional dancer and own a dance studio.

Talent: Musical theater to Luck Be A Lady.


Shilah Goodwin

Citrus High School

Age: 15

Hobbies: Scuba diving, jet skiing, dancing, cheerleading, swimming and shopping.

Achievements: Cover Miss America 1999; Miss Strawberry Queen 1998; first runner-up Miss Pre Teen 1998; chosen for Model Search America and Smash Talent Agency; county swim team; junior varsity cheerleader; middle school cheerleader; first place at dance competition.

Aspires: To become a marine biologist and work with dolphins and autistic children.

Talent: Vocal performance to Let 'Er Rip.


Jennifer Sauers

Citrus High School

Age: 16

Hobbies: Dance, drama, snow boarding, surfing and modeling.

Achievenents: Honor roll student for 10 years; dance training for 7 years; dance competitions and performing at various charity functions; Barbizon modeling.

Aspires: To major in dance in college and pursue a career in dance and the arts.

Talent: Character dance performance to Razzle Dazzle.


Melissa Fudge

Inverness Middle School

Age: 14

Hobbies: Cheerleading, softball and writing poetry.

Achievements: Inverness Middle School cheerleader; Barbizon modeling; softball awards; softball all-star; Miss Pre-Teen Citrus County 2000; member of FCA; vice-president FFA.

Aspires: To become a pediatric cardiologist.

Talent: Jazz dance performance to Splish, Splash.


Kasia Tubman

Seven Rivers Christian School

Age: 15

Hobbies: Soccer, cheerleading, softball and basketball.

Achievements: Student council representative; soccer team manager; cheerleading captain; working with underprivileged children on mission trips; active in church youth group; national cheerleader; cheered in Disney parade.

Aspires: To graduate with a 4.0 GPA and to become an actress.

Talent: Monologue titled Dear Amy.


Virginia Koch

Lecanto High School

Age: 16

Hobbies: Sports, dance and school organizations.

Achievements: FFA; 4-H; Key Club; National Honor Society; Spanish Club; received awards in sports, academics, spelling bee, chorus and science fair; livestock exhibitor at Citrus County Fair.

Aspires: To graduate high school early and start college and eventually own farm.

Talent: Dance performance to I Will Survive.

Danielle Albury

Seven Rivers Christian School

Age: 15

Hobbies: Volleyball, basketball, dance and horseback riding.

Achievements: Varsity volleyball and basketball; Presidential Physical Fitness awards; National Junior Honor Society; Vacation Bible School teacher; fundraiser for Pregnancy Crisis Center; peer tutoring.

Aspires: To play volleyball in college and become involved with helping animals.

Talent: Lyrical dance to When You Believe.

Melissa Harvey

Lecanto Middle School

Age: 14

Hobbies: Drawing and writing songs and poems.

Achievements: Honor roll student; first place for creative writing.

Aspires: To become a singer and actor and own a home sales business.

Talent: Jazz dance to Try Again.

Carla Sleight

Seven Rivers Christian School

Age: 14

Hobbies: Dancing, horseback riding, cheerleading, volleyball, softball and tennis.

Achievements: Cheerleader on eighth nationally ranked squad; dances on a national level dance competition team; cheered at Buccaneers half-time show; member of church youth group.

Aspires: To become a veterinarian

Talent: Tap dance to Groove.
