Two Largo police officers were punished Friday for their roles in separate cases in which they violated department policy, officials said. Officer Brian Schmall was suspended 18 days without pay for misleading supervisors about his residency during an investigation into the loss of his police radio, according to police Capt. John Carroll. The radio was found by a resident of a Tampa apartment complex where Schmall had been living, Carroll said. Department policy prohibits officers from living outside Pinellas County. Police Chief Lester Aradi ordered Schmall to move back into Pinellas County within 60 days. In the other case, Sgt. Joan Short was given a written reprimand for discussing a meeting among her, a lieutenant and a captain that was supposed to be private.
