A 21-year-old man who threw a single punch that killed a youth during the 1999 Tennessee-University of Florida football game weekend will be sentenced as a youthful offender.
Matthew Talmadge Thomas, an Island Grove resident, pleaded no contest to third-degree murder in the death of Wesley Ormsbee of High Springs.
Thomas will serve up to four years in a Department of Corrections facility where he is separated from older inmates, followed by two years of supervised release, according to Thursday's plea agreement
Ormsbee was one of two men who died in separate incidents during the 1999 Tennessee-University of Florida football game weekend.
An apartment complex where Ormsbee died was the site of early morning parties Sept. 19, said Thomas' attorney Gil Schaffnit.
Ormsbee and Thomas had been invited to the complex and later wound up in a free-for-all.
Ormsbee was hit in the left side of his head and apparently never regained consciousness.
