County Commissioners gave CVS drugstore the go-ahead Tuesday to set up shop on nearly 2 acres at the northeast corner of Bearss Avenue and N Boulevard.
According to the petition, Gustine Properties Inc. will redevelop the site near Buchanan Middle School with a 10,880-square-foot retail and pharmacy store with a drive-through window. A convenience store, restaurant and veterinary clinic now occupy the property.
Design plans indicate that access is planned for both N Boulevard and Bearss Avenue. County staff, the Planning Commission and a zoning hearing master also approved of the plan. (Petition 01-0130)

WESTCHASE: Waterford Construction and Development won approval to build eight one-story office buildings on 2.24 acres on the west side of Sheldon Road, north of Linebaugh Avenue. Building size will range from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet. County staff, the Planning Commission and a zoning hearing master approved of the project. (Petition 01-0053)
CARROLLWOOD: Ronald M. Diaz, on behalf of property owner Robert Hess, won permission to rezone a 0.83-acre parcel on the east side of Williams Road, north of Linebaugh Avenue, for commercial development. County staff, the Planning Commission and a zoning hearing master endorsed the plan. (Petition 01-0179)
LUTZ: The owner of 2.5 acres on N Dale Mabry Highway between Van Dyke Road and Geraci Lane received permission to use the site for a landscape materials and supply shop. County staff, the Planning Commission and a zoning hearing master approved of the plan. (Petition 01-0134)
A land use hearing officer heard the following petitions Friday:
UNIVERSITY NORTH: Cleveland and Ruby Walker seek a waiver that will allow for alcohol sales at a proposed lounge on Fletcher Avenue east of 15th Street. The Walkers must apply for a wet-zoning permit because the restaurant would be within 250 feet of homes. (Petition 01-0341)
NORTHDALE: International Sign & Design Corp. seeks county permission to increase the height of a pole sign advertising tenants at the Colonial Promanade Shopping Center, formally Northdale Court. The Largo company is asking for a variance that will allow a 33-foot-high sign at the corner of Dale Mabry Highway and Mapledale Boulevard. The county now caps the height of pole signs at 30 feet.
