Playhouse 19 community theater has purchased its present building, plus an adjacent building and an undeveloped lot for future expansion. The theater at 865 U.S. 19 S immediately will relocate the cramped lobby and business office to the adjacent building, said Juanda Marsh, a board member and mortgage lender who negotiated the purchase. She did not disclose the price. With the purchase of the two buildings, which are connected by an eave, the theater eventually will expand its seating capacity by 50 seats and lengthen its stage, Marsh said. Playhouse 19 directors had been searching for a new site for some time but eventually chose to purchase the theater's present rental location and the adjacent building and lot. "This will allow us to make some improvements, such as the new lobby, right away and make further improvements in the future without having to shut down," Marsh said. The theater has called a general membership meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday to explain the current status, and to fill two vacancies on the board of directors.
