The games are Special

More than 650 athletes from Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Sumter and Citrus counties converged on Lakewood High School for the Area 6 Special Olympics on Saturday. Events included track and field, soccer, volleyball and shuffleboard. Special Olympics Florida provides training and competition to more than 19,000 athletes with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Among the competitors on Saturday was 13-year-old Heather Oiler, who ran a leg of the 4x100-meter relay for the Paul B. Stephens team. "I couldn't stop smiling," Heather said.
