the "Baywatch' finale
Saturday night's XFL game between Las Vegas and Birmingham likely was the lowest-rated prime-time sports event ever. Las Vegas' 34-12 win on NBC drew a 2.1 overnight rating and a 4 share, meaning it was seen in a little more than 2-million homes and of all the TVs turned on, 4 percent were tuned to the game. The NHL fervently hopes those figures hold when national ratings are released Tuesday. Game 3 of last year's Stanley Cup final is the official all-time loser, with a 2.3 national rating and a 5 share. NBC, whose XFL ratings are falling faster than anything on Wall Street, continues to have us believe it doesn't care. "Everybody was fully aware the number would go down, going up against the NCAA Tournament," NBC Sports spokesman Kevin Sullivan said. "This is no surprise."
In Saturday's Michelob Cup Regatta, Robert Buzzelli's Gulfstream 35 Merlin was the first to finish overall, covering the 23-mile course in 5 hours, 27 minutes, 52 seconds. Jon Dowd's Iguana finished second overall, eight minutes behind Merlin, and won class honors based on handicap adjustments.
