Orchestra slates matinee season

Buying season tickets by April 9 for the series at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge will save $3.

The Florida Orchestra has announced the programs for its 2001-2002 Sunday Matinee Classics Series at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge and set a deadline of April 9 as the cutoff date for "early bird" price savings for both existing and new subscribers.

Current season ticket holders have until May 7 to retain their seats for the 2001-2002 concerts.

The first program, "Orchestral Showpieces," is at 3 p.m. Nov. 18 and features Anna Kate Mackle, principal harpist, in Rodrigo's Concietro de Aranjuez, transcribed for harp. The program also has Dvorak's Scherzo Capriccioso, Ginastera's Final Dance from the Estancia Ballet and Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien.

The second concert, "Symphonic Traditions _ The Birth of the Symphony," is at 3 p.m. Feb. 17 and includes J.C. Bach's Sinfonia in D. Major, Op. 18, No. 1 and excerpts from symphonies by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven.

The final program, a St. Patrick's Day Salute, is at 3 p.m. March 17. The program includes Sousa's Irish Dragoon, Hermann's Irish Medley, Arnold's Irish Dance, Grainger's Irish Tune from County Derry (Danny Boy) and other Irish favorites.

Those who purchase season tickets by April 9 will save $3 for the series.

The three concerts are $63 for center section, $60 for right and left of center and $57 for outer sections. After that, the series is $66, $63 and $60, respectively.

Orchestra subscribers can exchange any ticket or obtain additional tickets during the week of Aug. 20-24.

Single tickets go on sale to the general public on Aug. 27.

Subscribers also may exchange their River Ridge tickets for Florida Orchestra concerts at other venues, paying the difference, if any, as late as the Thursday before any Sunday concert.

The orchestra office must receive the tickets before any new tickets can be issued.
