The eight Florida football playerssuspended last week, including sophomore quarterback Rex Grossman, began spring practice Monday afternoon.
The players were suspended for "lousy academic effort," coach Steve Spurrier said.
Grossman is competing with fellow sophomore Brock Berlin for the starting position.
"He only missed two days," Spurrier said. "Rex is about like always."
Among those participating in their first practice was offensive lineman and former Hillsborough High standout Shannon Snell, Spurrier said.
It wasn't much of a practice as the weather forced the Gators into the Florida Gym, a recreational center on campus.
"We got a lot of plays in, a lot of just running, a lot of blocking, taking on blocks, no real tackling, but a lot of taking on plays," Spurrier said.
