2 children still in hospital after I-75 wreck Friday

Two adults and three children injured in a Friday car wreck were recovering Saturday.

The accident occurred on Interstate 75 just north of the Hernando-Pasco county line when the driver of a Ford Explorer, Alphonso Rankin, 49, of 27160 Wakefield Drive in Hill 'n Dale lost control on a curve. The sport utility vehicle overturned several times and landed in a ditch, a Florida Highway Patrol report said. One child in a car seat, 8-month-old Mark Anthony Jennings, was ejected. The boy was flown to St. Joseph's Hospital, Tampa, along with Denise Jennings, 28, Markia Jennings, 4, and Jasmine Jennings, 7, who live at the same Wakefield address, all had serious injuries, the report said.

Rankin was taken to Brooksville Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released. By Saturday morning, Denise Jennings and Jasmine Jennings also had been released. Markia Jennings was still in the hospital in fair condition, and Mark Anthony's condition was guarded.
