One dead, two injured in collision

A two-car collision Saturday afternoon in eastern Hillsborough County killed one man and caused minor injuries to two others.

Brian C. Rivera, 22, of 10703 Sherwood Lane in Riverview, died after another vehicle trying to turn onto an entrance ramp to Interstate 75 ran into the left side of the 1994 Chevrolet that Rivera was driving about 2:45 p.m. Saturday, said a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol. Rivera's passenger, Rafael J. Roque of 12911 Long Crest Drive in Riverview, suffered minor injuries.

Investigating Trooper Jeffery Perugini determined that Robert W. Wilson, 46, of 6915 Five Acre Road in Plant City, had turned left from the southbound lane of U.S. 301 to get onto I-75. Instead, the 1998 Dodge Wilson was driving struck Rivera's car as it was going north on U.S. 301.

Wilson also suffered minor injuries. He and Roque were taken to Tampa General Hospital, where they were treated and released Saturday afternoon.

Charges are pending while the FHP awaits the result of blood-alcohol tests.
