Auburn basketball coach Cliff Ellis, who belted out Southern soul hits with the band the Villagers and as a solo artist nearly 40 years ago, recently returned to a recording studio in Muscle Shoals, Ala., to make an album. "I said, "I don't know if I can pull it off,' " Ellis told the TimesDaily of Florence, Ala. "But we are having a ball, and I think we're going to have some pretty good music to show for it." No word on whether Ellis can get Larry Brown or Rick Pitino to be his roadies.

If Steffi Graf, who is expecting in December, has a girl, the child might earn $10-million before she's born. Tennis promoter John Korff is offering the huge paycheck to guarantee that the girl will appear in his A&P Tennis Classic tournament in 2017. "I've always wanted to have the daughters of one of our former champions play," Korff said. "Chris Evert has three boys, so that's out." Graf's agent, Phil de Picciotto, didn't accept or reject the offer. "He said it's the first time anybody's ever offered him money for an embryo," Korff said.
