CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS
The Spirit of Citrus Dancers, formerly a satellite of Ocala Regional Chapter of U.S. Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association, has been certified as USABDA chapter 672 serving the Citrus County area.
The group was formed by Ron Hinneburg of Hernando in June 2000. The original 47 members have grown in one year to over 125. The purpose of USABDA, a non-profit organization, is to provide "affordable" ballroom dancing in the communities and to introduce to the public the physical, mental and social benefits of ballroom dancing.
To meet these purposes, the Spirit of Citrus Dancers hosts a dance at 7 p.m. Saturdays at the Kellner Auditorium in Beverly Hills. There is a half-hour complimentary dance lesson, followed by open dancing including two mixers, ending at 10 p.m. Dancers from Alachua, Hernando, Marion and Sumter counties regularly join Citrus County dancers. Reasonably priced group dance lessons at beginner and intermediate levels are available Wednesday evenings.
Beginners and newcomers are welcome. For information, call Ron Hinneburg or Ann Averitt at 344-3768.
