Published Sep. 10, 2005

The county was well represented at the Florida State Young American Bowling Alliance State Tournament on July 1 as eight area bowlers finished 20th or better in their events.

The team events were held at Brunswick Harbor Lanes in Melbourne while Brunswick Brevard Lanes in Melbourne hosted the singles and doubles events.

Niki Vandam made the biggest splash, winning the girls all event scratch division. Vandam's score of 1,423 beat the rest of the field by 13 pins.

Vandam also teamed with fellow county bowlers Andrea Stephens, Leeann Carroll and David Hayes for a runner-up finish in Division 5 of the team category. Competing against 237 entrants, the foursome totaled 2,742. The team, called Bring It On, finished 51 pins off the lead.

Stephens also did well individually, finishing 15th out of 365 entrants in Division 5 of the girls singles event. Stephens had a score of 685.

Ashley Barthle also placed in two categories. Barthle finished 15th in Division 5 of the girls single event with a score of 666.

Barthle then combined with her sisters, Chelsey and Andrea, to finish 20th in Division 4 of the team event. The trio joined with Brevard's Billy Parker on Unity III to finish with 2,587 pins.

Stephen Ribblett made an impact in Division I of the boys singles event. Ribblett finished ninth with a score of 730, good enough for a top 10 against 377 entrants.
