The Pasco-Hernando Community College Board of Trustees chose Jeanne Gavish, a Hernando real estate agent, as its chairwoman Tuesday night, but it remains uncertain who will make up the board.
The terms of trustees James Yant, Dr. Rao Musunuru and Sharon Taylor expired May 31. Gov. Jeb Bush selects the new trustees, but he has not done so yet. Taylor said she did not wish to be reappointed and has not attended the last two meetings. Yant and Musunuru both asked to be reappointed.
School President Robert Judson said he expects the appointments by the end of next week. He's disappointed it has taken the governor so long, he said.
A Bush spokeswoman said Wednesday that the process has been delayed because Bush must find someone to replace Taylor.
Earlier this year students and residents from east Pasco County started a push to get someone from their side of the county appointed to the board. All five Pasco members of the board live in west Pasco.
The only Pasco member up for reappointment is Musunuru, a New Port Richey cardiologist.
The movement supporting appointment of an east Pasco resident has not held up the process, Bush spokeswoman Lisa Gates said.
The trustees selected Musunuru as vice chairman Tuesday night. If he is not reappointed by Gov. Bush, members will choose a new vice chairman.
Judson said he supports Musunuru's reappointment.
"But that's up to the governor," he said.
Gavish started her term in 1999 when Bush shook up the nine-person board by appointing seven new trustees.
