The Memorial Causeway Bridge was closed to traffic for about an hour Thursday afternoon because of an electrical problem that would not allow the bridge to lower properly. The problem began about 3:30 p.m., which caused heavy backups in downtown Clearwater. The bridge was opened to auto traffic about 4:30 p.m. after the bridge was lowered, said Kris Carson, a Florida Department of Transportation spokeswoman. The electrical problem was still causing problems Thursday evening, preventing boats from passing. Transportation workers were on the scene working Thursday evening.
