Seminole earns junior title

Seminole defeated Northwest 11-3 on Tuesday to win the District 5 junior baseball championship. Gene Civello earned the win by allowing only two hits and striking out seven in five innings.

Jim Alcaide, Derek Bates and Shawn Bradley combined for six hits for Seminole.

With the win, Seminole advanced to the Section 4 tournament in Port Charlotte, where it will meet District 12 champion Palm Harbor American in Saturday's first round.

Sectionals for all of the other divisions also start Saturday. The Section 4 champions advance to the state tournament.

The 9-10 softball tournament will be played at Cross Bayou and features a first-round matchup between District 5 champion Cross Bayou and District 12 champion Palm Harbor.

Major softball, at Cross Bayou, will feature a first-round matchup between Safety Harbor of District 12 and Seminole of District 5.

Junior softball, at Cross Bayou, has District 5 champion Pinellas Park National squaring off against West Pasco of District 12 in the first round.

Senior softball District 12 champion Dunedin will play Cape Coral in the first round while Northeast/Pinellas Park National has a first-round bye at Cross Bayou.

The 9-10 baseball tournament, at Countryside, includes Northeast of District 5 and District 12 champion Holiday, which has a first-round bye.

Major baseball, at Cross Bayou, has District 5 champion Seminole taking on Safety Harbor in the first round.

The senior baseball tournament will be played at the Englebert Complex in Dunedin and features Pinellas Park National of District 5 and Palm Harbor of District 12.
