The second man charged in the 1997 murder of 9-year-old Sharra Ferger made his first court appearance Thursday. Gary Steven Cannon, 20, appeared before County Judge Robert Cole to be advised of the first-degree murder charge against him. He told the judge he did not have a lawyer. The judge appointed the Public Defender's Office. Cannon and Sharra's uncle, Gary Cochran, 35, are suspected of abducting the girl from her Blanton home in October 1997, taking her to a nearby field and raping and murdering her. Cannon is serving a 15-year sentence at the Wakulla Correctional Institution in the beating and robbing a 70-year-old man.
