Eastside Cumberland Presbyterian Church

LEADERSHIP: The Rev. Melvin "Buddy" Stott Jr., 64, has led the church since September 1995. Stott has a bachelor's degree from Bethel College in MacKenzie, Tenn., and a degree from Cumberland Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He spent 25 years in Japan as a missionary. He has been married to Beverly for almost 44 years; they have four children.
SERVICES AND PROGRAMS: Sunday services include 9:45 a.m. Sunday school, 11 a.m. traditional worship and 7 p.m. informal worship. Other programs include 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Bible study and prayer meeting and Women's Circle every third Thursday of each month at 10:30 a.m.
HISTORY: The church began as a preaching point from King High School in October 1970. The Alabama-Florida-Mississippi Synod and Denominational Board of Missions bought land for a new facility in 1971. The sanctuary was completed in July 1972.
RECENT SERMON TOPIC OR THEME: Stott has been preaching a two-part series titled "Twilight Zone," third chapter of Revelations.
OUTREACH TO THE COMMUNITY: The church contributes to the World Vision outreach program through the Cumberland Presbyterian Denominational Program. It runs a food bank and collects clothing donations for people in its neighborhood.
