Florida might not have famous golf courses such as California's Pebble Beach or Georgia's Augusta National, but it has something else to boast about.

According to Florida Realtor magazine, Florida has more golf courses than any other state with 1,261 courses, 54 more than California, and upscale housing developments around many of them. In 2000, a record 41 courses open in the Sunshine State.

That probably explains why Tiger Woods lives in Orlando.

Mortgaging history

Buyers or refinancers who are waiting for mortgage interest rates to drop might spend a few moments taking a little history lesson. Rates are near 16-year lows, according to Runzheimer International, a management consulting company in Rochester, Wis. The average rate for the past 16 years is about 9 percent. The average for the past decade is about 8 percent. Here's a look at mortgage interest rates from the past few years.
