New British design to debut at convention

The British Royal Mint will unveil a new reverse design to appear on its 2001 Britannia gold proof when the American Numismatic Association holds its convention, a World's Fair of Money, Aug. 8-12 in Atlanta. The first four-coin set will be auctioned on eBay, and the proceeds will be donated to the association's museum fund.

The design is inspired by the classic Una and the lion design, which appeared on the Victoria 5 piece of 1839. The set's 100, 50, 25 and 10 coins weigh 1 ounce, { ounce, \ ounce and 1/10 ounce respectively. Authorized mintages and prices of the set will be announced at the convention.

Also featured will be tours of the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank Aug. 10 and the Dahlonega Mint Aug. 11. The mint is the site of the largest American gold deposit found east of the Mississippi River and was first mined in 1832.

Other highlights will be the Young Numismatists awards breakfast and auction and association's awards banquet Aug. 11.
