A 78-year-old Riverview man died Friday from injuries he suffered in a car accident five days earlier.
Carl Campbell of 12014 Baytree Drive died at Tampa General Hospital, said Rod Reder, a spokesman for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
On July 15, Campbell was a passenger in a 1996 Lincoln driven by his wife, 80-year-old Geneva Campbell. They were traveling south on Gornto Lake Road when Mrs. Campbell tried to turn left onto Commercial Drive. Her car was struck on the passenger side by a 1999 Volkswagen, Reder said.
Mrs. Campbell and the driver of the Volkswagen, who was not identified, suffered minor injuries.
Reder said detectives are investigating the crash.

TAMPA _ A 34-year-old man speeding away from a minor traffic accident was killed early Friday when his car slammed into a tree and then was hit by the car he had just rear-ended.
Sam McDuffie of 305 W Park Street died about 1:10 a.m. Friday at the site of the crash, said Joe Durkin, spokesman for the Tampa Police Department. The two women in the second car suffered minor injuries.
Durkin said McDuffie was driving a Nissan north on 26th Street when he rear-ended a 1994 Cadillac at E Martin Luther King Boulevard. He sped away from the scene. The driver of the Cadillac, 32-year-old Gena Wise, followed in order to get McDuffie's tag number, Durkin said.
At N 26th and E Palifox streets, McDuffie crashed his Nissan into a tree. Wise's Cadillac then hit the Nissan. She and her passenger, 31-year-old Latanya Tidwell, were taken to a hospital, treated and released.
McDuffie did not have a driver's license, according to state records. His license was suspended indefinitely in 1997 after violations for driving without a license and failure to pay traffic fines.
No charges have been filed, but Durkin said police still are investigating the accident.
