HILLSBOROUGH OBITUARIES

BACON, CELIA DeLANEY, 93, of Durant, died Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001) at Hawthorne Care Center, Brandon. Born in Union County, she came to the Tampa area in 1949 from Avon Park. She was a homemaker and member of Forest Park Church of God. Survivors include her husband, Eddie Bacon; two stepsons, Ray Bacon and Ronnie Bacon Sr., both of Plant City; and a step great-grandchild. Hopewell Funeral Home, Plant City.

BUZBEE, MARY RAE, 85, of Tampa, died Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001). She was a native and lifelong resident of Hillsborough County. Survivors include a son, Gerald L. Buzbee Sr.; and two grandsons, Gerald L. Buzbee Jr. and Bradley P. Buzbee. Gonzalez Funeral Home, Tampa.

CALMES, JOHN N., 75, of Valrico, died Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001) at home. Born in Chicago, he came to the Tampa area in 1993. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Masonic Lodge, Valparaiso, Ind., Scottish Rite Valley, South Bend, Ind., the Vets Club in Strawberry Ridge and Apostles Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Hope Calmes; three daughters, Nancy Burkhardt, Vicki Frazier and Terri Seagroatt; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. FLOREZ, LUIS G., 82, of Tampa, died Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001). Survivors include his wife, Elsa Sanchez; a daughter, Tamara Cruz; three sons, Ramon Cruz, Ernesto Cruz and Nestor Florez; and six grandchildren. Gonzalez Funeral Home, Tampa.

HAYES, NEAL, 67, of Seffner, died Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001) at home. Born in Goodwater, Ala., he moved to Florida 58 years ago. He was a farmer, a Navy veteran of the Korean War and was Baptist. Survivors include a son, Russell Neal Hayes, Tampa; a brother, Joe Hayes, Wimauma; three sisters, Mary Duncan, Tampa, Sylvia Moody, Seffner, and Ruby Brooks, Seffner; and a grandson, Russell Raymond Hayes, Thonotosassa. LOZADA, ELLIOTT LUGO, 37, of Tampa, died Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001). Survivors include his parents, Isidro Lugo and Rosalia Lozada; a sister, Sonia Lugo; two brothers, Isidro Lugo Jr. and Ovidio Lugo; a niece, Giselle; and two nephews, Frankie and Ovidio Jr. Gonzalez Funeral Home, Tampa.

SILVA, ODETTE ALAFIA, 30, of Tampa, died Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001). Born in Rhode Island, she came to the Tampa area in 1990. She was an Air Force police officer and was Catholic. Survivors include a daughter, Kiah Marie Tippette; and her parents, Viriato and Maria Silva. Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, Brandon.

WEST, HENRY "POPS," 65, of Thonotosassa, died Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001) at home. He was a Lakeland native and a lifelong resident. He was a commercial construction laborer and was Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine West; two daughters, Linda Vega, Houston, and Lorraine Smith, Grand Bay, Ala.; three sons, Richard West, Plant City, Johnny West, Dover, and Henry West, Thonotosassa; three sisters; five brothers; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
