The state volleyball finals had a heavy Tampa flavor Saturday as Durant, Tampa Prep and Plant captured state titles.
Durant started the day with a 15-10, 15-7 win over Niceville for the Class 5A title, its second in three years. Tampa Prep was next, smashing Fort Lauderdale Westminster 15-1, 15-8 in the 2A final for its 14th state title. Plant finished with a 15-7, 15-10 win over Merritt Island for the 4A title.
And the three champions do not include state powerhouse Berkeley Prep, which lost to Tampa Prep in the region final.
"It's a shame Berkeley Prep can't be here," Terps coach Paul McAdoo said. "They are good enough to compete with the teams here. It's a shame only one of us could go."
Tampa Prep star and Class 2A tournament most valuable player Amber Langston said the state title was good not only for the Terps, but for all three teams, which include several teammates in the highly successful club system.
"It's cool that we all play club together," she said. "And it's great what we have all done. It's really cool to share something like this with our teammates and with all of our friends."
