City Council members refuse to sell land to Tampa Bay Water for a desalination plant unless they are allowed to join the utility's board.
The city is sending its city manager and other employees to the next board meeting to press their demands.
Tampa Bay Water wants to build a brackish water desalination plant on part of a 7-acre, city-owned tract at 102nd Avenue N and the Cross Bayou Canal. The plant would pump 5-million gallons of drinking water a day from 14 wells that would supply the brackish water needed for the conversion.
The 2 acres in question have been appraised between $147,000 and $180,000. Construction could begin in early 2003.
