Frank Serini was in stable condition Saturday afternoon after Pasco Sheriff's deputies said he was shot by a friend the previous night.
Stable means he requires constant monitoring, but all indications are favorable, said a representative at St. Petersburg's Bayfront Medical Center, where Serini was flown.
Serini, 30, and three other people were eating Friday at his house, 15102 Bluefish St. in Hudson, when Howard Alan Strehan, 37, was invited inside, deputies said. Arrest reports detail the events:
Serini and Strehan, who have known each other for six years, went outside the house at about 8 p.m. Inside, witnesses heard Serini shout, "What the f--- are you doing?"
Then they heard one shot.
Serini ran to the front door and yelled, "He shot me."
The shot from a .25-caliber handgun hit him in the back and damaged his intestines.
Strehan got into his car and drove away.
At 8:18 p.m. he was arrested after leading deputies on a chase south on U.S. 19 to Bay Boulevard, where he lives in Pelican Bay Apartments.
"I just wanted to leave the county," Strehan told deputies.
Strehan faces charges of fleeing to elude and aggravated battery, deputies said. He was being held Saturday afternoon at county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $50,000 bail.
