The hot topic

The season opener aside, twice this season the Bucs have gone on the road to play teams that were winless. Twice, they lost.

The Vikings were 0-2 before knocking off the Bucs 20-16. The Titans were 0-3 before the 31-28 overtime victory.

Today, the Bucs visit a 0-7 Lions team that has played better than its record indicates. "I don't know if there has ever been a winless team in the NFL, so they're going to win a game eventually," Bucs defensive end Steve White said. "We just have to make sure it's not against us."

The Lions have played most of their opponents closely and have lost the past four by no more than eight points. In the film room, White said, the Lions aren't a pushover.

"They're not a sloppy team that's getting blown out," he said. "The biggest worry would be overconfidence. We have to get guys to believe what they see on film instead of the record."

Arguably one of the lowest points for the Bucs last season came at the hands of the visiting Lions on Oct. 19. Two fourth-quarter touchdowns by James Stewart, who finished with 116 yards on 29 carries, broke a tie at 14 as the Bucs lost their fourth straight. The Lions forced four turnovers, three Shaun King interceptions and a fumble by Mike Alstott.

Warren Sapp begins his second century of games in a Bucs uniform today. Last Sunday in Green Bay was his 100th game. Safety Dexter Jackson and cornerback Ronde Barber are tied for fourth in the NFC with three interceptions. The Bucs have at least one pick in 11 straight games. The Bucs are 12-10 on artificial turf under Dungy. Detroit quarterbacks have thrown 14 interceptions this season.
