Adam E. Bennett, son of Caroline and Fred Bennett of Palm Harbor, has been inducted into the National Society or Collegiate Scholars. The society recognizes first and second year undergraduates who excel academically. He is a 2000 graduate of the medical magnet program at Palm Harbor University High school. He is enrolled in the honors program at the University of Florida, where he received a research position at Evelyn F. and William L. McKnight Brain Institute. He plans to pursue a career in medicine.
Marc P. Vallin, son of Tony and Liz Vallin, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Vallin, a senior at St. Petersburg Catholic High School, is a member of Boy Scout Troop 371 and the Order of the Arrow. He began scouting in 1990 as a cub scout, and earned the Weebelos rank and Arrow of Light Award. As a member of troop 371, he was a senior patrol leader, quartermaster and troop guide. He participated in the Boy Scout National Jamboree, where he held the position of assistant patrol leader. He earned the Fifty-Miler award for hiking and canoeing for more than 60 miles in six days. He is a Boy Scouts of America certified lifeguard and earned swimming and snorkeling awards. For his Eagle rank, Vallin earned 42 merit badges, and for his project, he planned and managed a brick-laying restoration project in front of an old schoolhouse in Heritage Village.
