Dunedin officials to talk compromise with Blue Jays

Published Sep. 10, 2005

The City Commission will discuss with the Toronto Blue Jays at 4:30 p.m. today at City Hall a compromise on a plan to renovate the team's spring training facilities. After the team last week rejected the city's proposal to raise more money for the renovation, State Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Palm Harbor, was called in to mediate the disagreement. The two sides disagree about who should pay to finish the project, which was originally expected to cost $12-million. The team has asked for public funding for as much as $2-million more and has threatened to leave town if the request isn't granted. The city has said it would go to court to keep the team in place.
