HOMETOWN HERNANDO

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

At a recent meeting of the Hernando Herb Society, members enjoyed a presentation from Liz Gates of Spring Hill titled "Herbs for the Table."

According to member Patti Yontz, the program was outstanding. "Liz had a beautiful table set with herbs in different containers," said Yontz.

Gates prepared five dishes and a dessert, giving members a grid and scissors to snip their own herbs and season the dishes to taste. Members were then asked to write down which herb they liked best. A discussion on each herb took place, followed by a vote on which one the group liked best.

The program ended with a little "may" wine that Gates prepared in advance from herbs. Members got to sample the wine.

The Hernando Herb Society meets at 1 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at the West Hernando/S.T. Foggia Library, 6335 Blackbird Ave., Spring Hill. Refreshments are served at each meeting, using some of the herbs the group studies.
