Tale of two cities

In Minneapolis, the Twins, considered a leading contender to be folded by baseball, sold eight season tickets Wednesday, the day after the vote to eliminate teams. The fans said they wanted to show support for the team. In Montreal, where the Expos seem to be going down without a fight, city officials say the $500,000 annual rent the Expos pay for Olympic Stadium can be "made up by having a one-week trade show."

Gifts for the fans

The tennis racket used by Bobby Riggs in his 1973 match against Billie Jean King at Houston's Astrodome will be auctioned next month. The racket has a reserve price of $15,000 in the auction, scheduled to take place on lelands.com and by telephone on Dec. 6-7. Other items include a 1952 Jackie Robinson home Brooklyn Dodgers jersey ($25,000), a Cal Ripken 1981 rookie jersey ($10,000) and a Willie Mays New York Mets jersey ($5,000).
