Seaman Recruit Arik S. Goodman, son of Lynn and Richard Burrows of St. Petersburg, completed basic training at the Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. He will be stationed at Norfolk (Va.) Naval Station until his ship, the USS Mitscher, is commissioned.
The grandson of Harriet and Wayne Goodman of St. Petersburg, he graduated in 1999 from Pinellas Technical Education Center.
Airman Daniel K. Umberger, son of Art Umberger of Gulfport and Joan and Rick Conn of Largo, completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
A 2001 graduate of Boca Ciega High School, he is undergoing technical training to become a crew chief for the C-130 Hercules, an aircraft that performs the tactical portion of airlift missions, at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas.
The USS Worcester CL144 Association is seeking former ship's company, marine detachment, flag members and aviation personnel for membership in the association. The ship was commissioned from 1948 until 1958.

Recipients of the Distinguished Flying Cross are invited to join the Tampa Bay chapter of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society. Awarded to members of the armed forces for heroism or extraordinary achievement in aerial flight, the medal was authorized by an act of Congress in 1926 and was first awarded to Capt. Charles A. Lindbergh in 1927.
