Mosby delays college signing

Published Sep. 10, 2005

BROOKSVILLE: This much is clear: Hernando's Bernice Mosby will not sign a national letter of intent today, the beginning of the early signing period for basketball.

What is less certain is when _ or even where _ Mosby will sign. Less than a month after calling her oral commitment to play at Louisiana State "final," the Times' 2000-2001 All-Suncoast Player of the Year is wavering again.

"I think I might sign on Friday," Mosby said. "It's going to be Florida or LSU."

Mosby, a 6-foot-1 center/forward, averaged 22.7 points and 12.8 rebounds while leading her team to the Class 4A region final as a junior. She gave oral commitments to LSU in the summer and Florida and Connecticut in the fall before returning to LSU late last month.

"Sometimes, when I visit schools, I don't think about the other schools," she said. "I just think about that school or what I'm seeing at that time, and I don't think about what the other schools have."

The early signing period runs through Nov. 21. A second period goes from April 10-May 15.

"I think she's doing the right thing by weighing all the options," first-year Hernando coach Pete Lahey said.

Mosby isn't done. She visited Florida State last weekend and plans to attend the Florida-Florida State football game Saturday in Gainesville. "But I didn't commit," Mosby said, laughing.
