Shooting victim still in critical condition

A man shot in the Shore Acres neighborhood Monday in what police described as an argument over drugs remained in critical condition in a local hospital Tuesday.

Jeff McGee, 36, was undergoing treatment at Bayfront Medical Center for two gunshot wounds to his upper body.

The man accused of shooting him _ Herbert Wright, a 23-year-old pharmacy technician _ remained in the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail. Wright is charged with possession of powder cocaine and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

Wright has not been charged in the shooting. Police are investigating whether he shot McGee in self-defense.

McGee was shot Monday afternoon after he came to Wright's door at 4430 Huntington St. NE and pulled a gun on Wright, police said.

TAMPA _ Tests conducted last week at the main Tampa post office at Tampa International Airport show the facility to be free of anthrax, officials said.

The Tampa Mail Processing and Distribution Center was cleared by the Florida Department of Health, postal officials said Tuesday.

Samples were collected from the facility Nov. 8 and sent to the state lab for testing.

Postal officials said the tests were precautionary, and that the Tampa facility was one of 270 postal facilities to be tested across the country.
