The Prodigals, an Irish rock band from New York, had this year's Tropical Heatwave crowd hollering for more punky, accordion-tinged Celtic fare. The group had been scheduled to headline the birthday bash for WMNF-FM 88.5 on Sept. 15, but that show was canceled after the terrorist attacks.
WMNF managed to get the Prodigals back in town Saturday night for the band's last gig in the United States before heading to Ireland for a five-city tour.
The quartet, led by singer-accordionist Gregory Grene, includes bass player Andrew Harkin, drummer Brian Tracey and singer-guitarist Ray Kelly. The group's third CD, Dreaming in Hell's Kitchen, was released this year.
The Prodigals perform with local faves the Gita at 8 p.m. at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, Tampa. Tickets are $12 advance, $15 at the door. (813) 977-6474.
