Guitarist Adam Holzman plays a wide-ranging program in recital. There's a Hispanic flavor to part of it _ works of Manuel Ponce and Astor Piazzolla, among others _ complemented by the baroque (Telemann's Fantasia No. 1) and the contemporary (Roland Dyens' Saudade No. 3).
Holzman, head of the guitar department at the University of Texas and formerly on the music faculty of the University of South Florida, performs at 8 p.m. Friday in the Student Services Building Auditorium on the Dale Mabry campus of Hillsborough Community College, across from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Tickets are $7.
Friday's recital launches a new guitar series presented by the Florida Guitar Alliance and LaBella Strings. Other performances are at the University of Miami, the University of Central Florida in Orlando and the Florida East Coast Guitar Society in Melbourne. Subsequent guitar alliance concerts will be by Martha Masters in January and Claudio Marcotulli in March. For information, call Richard Long at (813) 988-2734.
