A second East Lake High School senior has been charged with aggravated child abuse in an Oct. 26 beating that left a 15-year-old with a concussion. Brian A. Fletcher, 18, of Clearwater was arrested Monday and released from the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday on $1,500 bail.
Last week, Pinellas County sheriff's deputies arrested East Lake High senior Christopher J. Vuolo, 18, of Palm Harbor on similar charges. Vuolo was being held at the jail Wednesday in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Sheriff's officials say Fletcher, Vuolo and an 18-year-old from Oldsmar showed up at a party at a home in East Lake around 1:30 a.m. Oct. 26 and beat a guest without provocation. Arrest reports said the victim, who was not identified because investigators were treating the matter as a child abuse case, was punched and kicked while lying in the fetal position. Also, a cooler filled with ice was dumped on the victim and a full unopened can of soda was thrown at his head, sheriff's officials said.
Arrest reports list the Oldsmar 18-year-old as a co-defendant in the case, but as of Wednesday, he had not been charged, according to jail and court records.
