WHAT: East Side Challenge.

WHO: Land O'Lakes, Pasco, Wesley Chapel, Zephyrhills.

WHERE: Gator Stadium, Land O'Lakes.

SCHEDULE: Field events and 4x800 relay start at 3 p.m. Friday. All running events start at 4 p.m.

AT STAKE: Top four individual place-winners receive ribbons; top three relay place-winners receive ribbons.

NEED TO KNOW: Wesley Chapel's boys and girls teams should win it in a rout by sheer numbers alone. The other teams boast talented standouts but not the kind of depth it would take to knock off the Wildcats. But there's still plenty of entertaining events and athletes to watch. Keep an eye on: Pasco jumper Keymo Pearson, who has ruled the high, long and triple jumps this season; Wesley Chapel's Kenny "Junior" Roberts, who is the new favorite in the 110-meter high and 300 intermediate hurdles, and distance standout Kurt Able in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200; Land O'Lakes' Alison Foster in the discus and shot put and Dani Shimer in the 800; and Zephyrhills' 400 twosome of Jose Espinosa and Renee Yonkoff. Despite the limited field, there's still a few intriguing matchups to watch. Pasco sprinter LaShawn Vaughns will again face Zephyrhills' Tiffany Tucker in the 100, 200 and jumps, in a tuneup of their coming Sunshine Athletic Conference battle. Pasco's Ben Alford and Zephyrhills' Drew Barthle will battle it out in the pole vault pit, and Alford is already vaulting at 13 feet this year. Also interesting is a clash between Barthle and Wesley Chapel's Tim Davis in the discus.
