Carrollwood Players

to perform comedy

The Carrollwood Players will present the opening of Over the River and Through the Woods at the Carrollwood Playhouse in Plantation Plaza, 4333 Gunn Highway. The comedy, directed by Carlyn Postle, is about a young man who tries to tell his aging, close-knit, family-oriented grandparents that he is accepting a job on the other side of the country. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays beginning this week through April 13. Tickets are $12 for adults, and $10 for seniors (ages 55 and Older) and students with identification. Seating is limited. For information or reservations, call 265-4000.


Gulf Ridge Council

to honor adult leaders

The Gulf Ridge Council of Boy Scouts of America will host its annual Council Recognition Banquet from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Columbia Restaurant, 2117 E Seventh Ave., in Ybor City. Adult leaders from the eight-county Gulf Ridge Council will be recognized for their service. Glenn Beck of WFLA Radio 970 AM will be the master of ceremonies. This year's theme is "Celebrating a Heritage of Leadership." There will be presentations of awards, including the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, which is the highest honor given on a council level and presented for outstanding service to scouting and the community. One Quality District, comprising scouting units in Hillsborough, Pasco, Citrus, Sumter, Hernando, Polk, Hardee and Highlands counties will receive the John Wall Lykes Award, a trophy that is proudly displayed by the winning district until the next year's banquet.
