HILLSBOROUGH OBITUARIES

BARGE, KATHRYN IDELL, 7, of Valrico, died Tuesday (March 19, 2002) in Tampa. She was born in Brandon. She was a student, a member of Bell Shoals Baptist Church and enjoyed sports. Survivors include her parents, Dexter and Evelyn Barge, Valrico; a brother, Dexter L. Barge Jr., Valrico; two sisters, Olivia Grace Barge, Valrico, and Jacleen Barge, Newport News, Va.; her maternal grandfather, Willie Faison Jr., Rocky Mount, N.C.; and her paternal grandparents, Elbert and Juliaette Barge, De Funiak Springs. BRENNAN, ROBERT NORMAN, 79, of Chillicothe, Ohio, seasonal resident of Sun City Center, died Saturday (March 16, 2002) at South Bay Hospital, Sun City Center. Born in Everettville, W.Va., he was a seasonal resident of Sun City Center for several years. He was an equipment sales manager and an Army veteran of World War II. CARTER, JOSIE, 69, of Tampa, died Tuesday (March 19, 2002) in Tampa. Born in Cayman Brac, Cayman Islands, she came to the Tampa area in 1967. She was a homemaker and was Baptist. Survivors include two sons, Raymond and Edward; three daughters, Joanne, Donna and Charlotte; and five grandchildren. Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, Brandon.

CLAVILLE, THELMA FUTCH, 84, of Valrico, died Wednesday (March 20, 2002) at home under the care of LifePath Hospice. Born in Lawty, she was a lifetime resident of the Tampa area. She was a homemaker, a member of Southside Baptist Church, Brandon, and a charter member of Bell Shoals Baptist Church, Brandon. Survivors include a son, Henry Travis Claville, Riverview; two daughters, Linda C. Watkins and Sandra C. McAuley, Valrico; three sisters, Annie Collins, Ida Lee Wheeler and Grace Folsom, all of Lakeland; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. ELLIS, GEORGE WASHINGTON, 74, of Tampa, died Thursday (March 14, 2002) in Tampa. Born in Reynolds, Ga., he came here several years ago from Reynolds. He was a retired supervisor for Cargill Fertilizer. He was an Army veteran and former member of Allen Temple AME Church. Survivors include a son, George Ricky Ellis; several nieces; 21 great-nieces and nephews; and five great-great-nieces and nephews. Wilson Funeral Home, Tampa.

EVANS, WILLIE MAE, 78, of Tampa, died Saturday (March 16, 2002) in Tampa. Born in Albany, Ga., she came here 60 years ago from Albany. She was a homemaker and was Protestant. Survivors include a son, James L. Walker, Tampa; and other relatives and friends. Wilson Funeral Home, Tampa.

GUZMAN-BRANCH, VIVIAN, 88, of Tampa, died Friday (March 15, 2002) in Tampa. Born in Lake City, she came here several years ago from Lake City. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Survivors include nine children, Rena Guzman, Vivian Norton, Shirley Black, Carolyn Sessler, Herbert Guzman, Margaret Woodie, Marjorie McGee, James Guzman and Costello Guzman; 40 grandchildren; and 150 great-grandchildren. HENLEY, GEORGIANA, 87, of Tampa, died Tuesday (March 19, 2002) at Lake Shore Villas in Tampa. She was a Tampa native and a lifelong resident. She was an avid bowler and worked for the Hillsborough County school system after her husband's death. Survivors include four sons, Gary D. Henley, Clearwater, Donald B. Henley, Tampa, Larry N. Henley, Lutz, and Lester E. Henley, Lutz; a brother, Wallace E. Leavine, Tampa; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. LUKE, ELINOR W., 90, of Plant City, died Monday (March 18, 2002). Born in Big Rapids, Mich., she came to the Tampa area in 1994 from Grand Rapids. She was a homemaker and member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Survivors include a son, Charles Luke, Plant City; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. MARSHALL, ROTELIAUS, 82, of Tampa, died Tuesday (March 12, 2002) in Tampa. Born in Shellman, Ga., she came here several years ago. She was a retired housekeeper for private families and a member of New Bethel AME Church. Survivors include four children, Ophelia, LaCoria, Joe and Jerry, all of Tampa; two sisters, Sara McCoy, Tampa, and Rosa McMillon, Jacksonville; two brothers, Lucious and Luke Wims, both of Jacksonville; and seven grandchildren. MITCHELL, SADIE F., 89, of Tampa, died Tuesday (March 19, 2002). Born in Rockingham County, N.C., she came here 10 years ago. Survivors include a daughter, Molly Butler; a stepdaughter, Betty Lee Harris; two stepsons, Russell and Stedman Mitchell; a brother, Cleo Freeman; two sisters, Ruth Hicks and Lizzie Alley; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. PALEVEDA, MARY HELEN, 78, of Tampa, died Monday (March 18, 2002) at Memorial Hospital of Tampa. Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., she came to the Tampa area 56 years ago from Chattanooga. She was a self-employed secretary and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic minister. Survivors include her husband, Patrick F.; two sons, Patrick E. Paleveda Jr., Honolulu, and Matthew A. Paleveda; four daughters, Katherine S. Tomas and Robin M. Merkel, both of Tampa, Jean M. Shaw, Lewisville, Texas, and Helen L. TORRES, ILDEFONSA, 74, of Clearwater and Tampa, died Wednesday (March 13, 2002). Born in Puerto Rico, she came to the Tampa Bay area a year ago from Puerto Rico. She was a homemaker. Survivors include three daughters, Luz, Lilliam and Oneida Soto; six sons, Radames, Juan, Elmy, Edgardo, Axel and Hector Soto; 38 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. TURNER, TRENT NEIL, 29, of Tampa, died Monday (March 18, 2002). Born in Kingston, N.Y., he was a 1991 graduate of Tampa Bay Vo-Tech. WASHINGTON, LOUIS JR., 76, of Tampa, died Friday (March 15, 2002) in Tampa. He was native of Tampa and a lifelong resident. He was a retired stevedore for International Longshoreman's Association, an Army veteran and was Protestant.
