Budding fighters at the Ambassador Boxing Club have been working out in new quarters since November when the program moved into a building at County Line Industrial Park. Founded by Heaven's Gate Christian Fellowship youth pastor Cecil Lalas in Weeki Wachee nine years ago, the club's mission is to "teach the art of boxing and its parallels to biblical principles," combining "physical discipline with spiritual truth," he said. On April 13, the club will present a 12-bout boxing card at the National Guard Armory on Spring Hill Drive. The ring action gets under way at 7 p.m.
Ashley Frank, 17, adjusts her headgear before getting into the ring. She has been coming to the club for about three months, and her parents say she has never been as passionate about anything. She will be on the bout card April 13.
