A Tampa man was charged in the death of his 3-month-old son after deputies said he threw the infant against a wall when the child would not stop crying.
George Christopher Edmonds, 33, of 9027 E Causeway Blvd. told investigators he grabbed his son, Christopher Lee Edmonds, under the arms and squeezed him at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to make the baby stop crying, sheriff's spokesman Lt. Rod Reder said.
Then Edmonds, who is 6 feet 4 and 235 pounds, twice threw the baby against a door, Reder said. The boy stopped breathing, and Edmonds and his girlfriend, who is the baby's mother, took him to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Reder said it was not clear if the mother, who has not been identified, was home at the time of the incident.
Edmonds, who jail records show is a technician for Texaco, admitted to sheriff's detectives he had hurt the baby, Reder said. He is charged with second-degree murder and was held without bail.
