A woman going through a divorce drowned her 1-year-old girl Friday, then tried to kill herself, police said.
If Eulie Polanco survives, she will be charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the death of her daughter, Dana, said Bill Robertson, a police spokesman in this Fort Lauderdale suburb.
Officers arrived at the house of Polanco, 30, around 2 p.m. after she told a friend she had drowned her baby and was going to kill herself, said Bill Robertson, a police spokesman in this Fort Lauderdale suburb.
Polanco and her daughter, Dana, were found together in a bathtub, Robertson said.
Attempts to revive Dana failed and she was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, Robertson said.
Police would not say what kind of wounds the mother suffered, but she was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. She was in critical condition Friday, Robertson said.
According to police, Polanco was divorcing the baby's father, who lived separately.
