Seeing red

A cardinal keeps an eye out while its mate gathers twigs this week at the Botanical Gardens at Pinewood Cultural Center in Largo. Cardinals mate for life. At first, both male and female cardinals feed their hatchlings, but eventually the job falls entirely to the male as the female builds a new nest for the next brood.
