NCAA RATINGS UP: CBS doesn't need a string of upsets for big overnight ratings in the NCAA Tournament. Viewership increased about 22 percent from 2001 for Friday's games, all won by favorites.
The first window drew a 7.1 overnight rating, 11 percent better than last year. That early telecast was No. 2-seeded Oregon beating No. 6 Texas in the Midwest Region, and No. 2-seeded UConn defeating No. 11 Southern Illinois in the East.
The night's second block of games had an 8.3 overnight rating, 34 percent better than in 2001. Those games were No. 1 Maryland topping No. 4 Kentucky in the East, and No. 1 Kansas over Illinois in the Midwest.
The overnight ratings through six days averaged 6.2 _ 13 percent better than last year. The national rating through five days, though, was 5.5, the same as 2001.
